Laura Linney's performance of weak but strong characters has helped make her one of the most popular American actors. Her father was a renowned writer, however Linney was raised as a single child by a single mom, a nurse. Through the summer months when she was with her father Linney discovered a love for theater. Linney eventually pursued acting initially in Brown University then at Juilliard School. After graduating at Brown University she made making her Broadway debut soon afterward. Within two years of this, her first feature film hit the market, and following year, her debut on television. She has been featured on a number of shows on stage, television and film shows since that time. She has won many awards during her professional career. This includes 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. Though she was awarded numerous prizes over the years, theater has always been her first interest.
